Renewable wind energy projects are usually located in rural areas where farming, ranching, and other rural land uses co-exist well with wind farms. Wind energy projects provide substantial economic benefits to their communities. Landowners receive royalty payments, while schools, cities, villages, counties, and states receive property tax payments. Wind energy projects also offer locally-based jobs in construction, maintenance, and operations of the wind farm.
